Fabulous Life Of Elijah #2- ‘My God can kick your false god’s hinny’ Participant Notes,

1 Kings 18

JESUS IS ALL-POWERFUL!

  • The enemy tries to trick us into thinking other things, our problems, other people, he himself and false gods are more powerful than Jesus Is.
  • That’s a lie—because only Jesus is All-Powerful!
  • If the enemy can get you to think something or someone is more powerful than Jesus, then he can get you to follow a false god.

Ahab Was The Worst And Most Evil King Israel Had Ever Had!

  • He married the evil Jezebel.
  • He instituted worship of the false gods Baal and Asherah as the national rule.

God Has Elijah Confront Ahab About His Wickedness.

  • Ahab’s most evil offense was leading Israel to worship false gods and idols.
  • God causes a drought to prove that Baal was not really the god of rain or a real god.

1 Kings 18:1-6

  • Elijah starts his journey to confront Ahab again and tell Him the true God will provide rain.
  • King Ahab is so blinded by his Baal worship and selfishness that, he can’t see Baal is a false god and has no power over the rain.
  • King Ahab asks Obadiah to help him search for the last remaining grass in his kingdom to feed his horses.
  • Ahab doesn’t know Obadiah is one of the few people in Israel who worships the true God.
  • Obadiah at risk of death, kept alive God’s prophets.

1 Kings 18:7-16

  • Obadiah Sees Elijah.
  • Obadiah is worried about losing his life, if Obadiah announces Elijah is there, and Elijah doesn’t show up.

1 Kings 18:17-20

IN HIS SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS, AHAB CALLS ELIJAH A TROUBLEMAKER.

  1. Ahab blames Elijah for the drought.
  2. Elijah keeps confronting Ahab about his wickedness.
  3. Elijah’s Belief In God And God’s Standard—Stand In Opposition To King Ahab’s Baal Worship And Rule.
  • Non-Christians and woke culture often call Christian’s troublemakers and worse because of our belief in God, God’s commands and standards.

What do we do when culture and non-believers call us troublemakers, haters & worse?

  • Elijah speaks the truth in love: “You and your family are the troublemakers.”
  • Follow Elijah’s Example—And Speak The Truth In Love.

Ephesians 4:15, “Speak the truth in love…”

  • We must stop letting people tell lies about us Christians and God and boldly speak the truth.

In Love, Jesus Confronted People About Their Sin—Calling It Sin.

  • The world defines love differently than Jesus—Jesus spoke the truth out of love.
  • Culture says to love someone you must accept their lifestyle, no matter what it is—WRONG!

Love Is How And Why We Tell The Truth!

  • How- We don’t put them down—BUT we tell them what Jesus says!!!!!
  • Why- because we love Jesus and love them and Jesus commands us to speak the truth.

The truth: You’ve disobeyed God’s commands and worshipped a false god.

  • God alone defines truth.

Two Questions:

  1. What do you worship, I mean really? Your Job, Money, Your Hobby, A Person? Other?
  • Whatever gets our first priority is what we worship.

  1. Are You Obeying God’s Commands In The Bible?
  • We’re saved by grace, but we love Jesus by obeying His commands.

  • Why Mt. Carmel? It was one of the last places in all of Israel with grass and water.

1 Kings 18:21-25

Elijah Sets The Challenge:

  • Quit Wavering Between 2 Opinions. Question: Is Jesus Your First Love?
  • The God who sets fire to the wood is the true God.

1 Kings 18:26-29

  • Most Of Us Today—Have a Different Way Of Engaging Our False gods.
  • You May Have False god In Your Life!—What Has Captured Your Heart?
  • Has Jesus Captured Your Whole Heart?
  • The Prophets Of Baal Can’t Get Baal To Do Anything—Because He’s A False god.

1 Kings 18:30-40

Elijah Doesn’t Build An Altar To God—It Says That He Rebuilds an altar where god was once worshipped!

  • Question– ‘Do you need to rebuild the altar and begin worshipping Jesus again?’
  • Have you forgotten Jesus who loves you?

Elijah’s Trying To Make It Impossible For Fire To Burn Up The Wood And Bull.

  • Elijah Is Soaking The Altar, Wood And Bull With Water To Show That This Is No Small Thing For God To Burn It With Fire!
  • That The God That I Serve—Yahweh Who Is My God, That Even With All The Odds Against Him, He Still Moves!

At The Time When Israel Used To Offer Up the Evening Sacrifice To God—Elijah Offers His Sacrifice And Prayer.

  • We’ve Gone From Morning Till Evening With Baal Worship And Prayers—And Not A Single Drop Of Water Or A Little Spark Of A Flame Has Happened!
  • Elijah Offers A Small But Faith-Filled Prayer—With A Focus On God’s Glory And God’s People Coming Back To Him!

By The Time Elijah Says Amen, Fire Shoots Down From God’s Hand And Consumes Everything On The Altar!

  • That’s The Intense Power Of God!
  • The people fall on their faces in what is to be a short-lived repentance and cry out that Yahweh is God!
  • Have you ever had a short-lived repentance? — Come back to Jesus!

Hebrews 12;1, ‘Get rid of everything that causes you to stumble and follow Jesus with endurance.”  (2 Corinthians 6:14)

WHAT’S THE CONCLUSION?

My God Is All-Powerful And Can Kick Any False god—Or Any Situation’s Hinny! So, I’m Going To Live The FABULOUS Life—And Follow, Trust, Obey And Worship Jesus!
