No Excuses, Get In The Habit!
Here are some notes written by parents requesting that their kids be excused from school. The MISSPELLED words made the teacher’s day! “My son is under a doctor’s care and should not take physical education today. Please Execute him.” A little girl’s slip read, “Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick and I had her shot.” How about this one, “Megan could not come to school today because she’s been bothered by very close veins.” I love this one; “Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday.” Excuses, most of us are very good at giving excuses, especially when it comes to failing to keep God first!
Jesus said this in Matthew 6:33, “Make your number one priority the building of my church/kingdom and a right relationship with me, and then I will supply all you need in life.”
As Christ followers we’re commanded to keep Jesus first. But when summer comes, many of us give ourselves lots of excuses—as to why we don’t need to—or have time to keep Jesus first! So, this summer, I challenge you to get into the habit of keeping Jesus first! How? Read your bible daily, worship in church with us each Sunday, tithe and serve! These are all God’s commands, not suggestions.
The Bible says in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
So many of us get in the summer habit of not being in church, not keeping Jesus First!
So, again I challenge you to get into the habit of keeping Jesus first! Read your bible daily, worship in church with us each Sunday, tithe and serve! In the summer we especially need people to step up and serve.
When God called Moses to go to Pharoah and demand that he set the Hebrew people free, Moses responded, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” God responded, “I will be with you!” This wasn’t good enough for Moses. He tried every excuse in the book to avoid God’s call:
- I don’t have enough influence.
- I don’t know what to say.
- What if they don’t believe me.
- I’m not a good speaker.
Finally, Moses asked God to send somebody else. But God never calls anyone to a task without first perfectly equipping that person for the task. In spite of his protests, Moses became one of the greatest prophets ever!
Deuteronomy 34:10-12, “Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.”
What is it that God wants YOU to do? When God calls, there are NO excuses!
So, again I challenge you to get into the habit of keeping Jesus first! Read your bible daily, worship in church with us each Sunday, tithe and serve!

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!
God calls us to be a praying people! He wants us to seek him! God answers people who pray.
Our Summer prayer challenge is to pray for unchurched people, for our building program and that our country would turn back to God. Pray for our President and leaders.
James 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of God’s righteous people is powerful and effective.” (Remember, we’re righteous because of our acceptance of Jesus!)
