RESURRECTED PURPOSE, John 21:1-24
Your life is too valuable, your calling too great, and your God too awesome to waste your life on what doesn’t matter.
- Nothing we do on earth matters, except that which points people to Jesus!
2 Timothy 4:5b, “…Work at telling others the good news, and fully carry out the ministry that God has given you.”
Matthew 6:33, “Seek to build the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
- The resurrected Jesus gives three commands in these verses, commands that lead to a resurrection of purpose in our lives.
John 21:1-8
- CAST YOUR NET ON THE OTHER SIDE.
In these verses Peter and the disciples went from…
An Erosion of purpose: “That night they caught nothing…”
To An Explosion of purpose: “It’s the Lord…”
This command teaches us some valuable lessons about God’s purpose and our success:
- Failure and Discouragement _________________ you’ve lost your God given purpose.
- The secret to success is NOT Trying Harder.
- The problem is not where we are, but who we’re _____________________.
- We are never far from success when we permit Jesus to Give Us Orders.
John 21:9-14
One of the purposes of this chapter is to teach us how to relate to the resurrected Lord.
R ________________ His Presence Everywhere
E _____________ His Company.
A ______________ His Invitations.
L ____________ To His Leadership.
John 21:15-17
- FEED MY SHEEP.
Want to make a LASTING difference in other people’s lives?
- Make ____________________ Your FIRST Priority.
- Then _____________________ Christ’s Forgiveness For Your WORST Sins.
1 John 1:9, “If We Confess Our Sin, Jesus Is Faithful And Just And Will Forgive Us of Our Sins And Purify Us From All Unrighteousness.”
►Jeremiah 31:34
- ________________ That Jesus Can And Wants To Use You In A GREAT Way.
John 21:18-24
III. FOLLOW ME!
Peter asks two questions that can cause us as followers to fail:
- Why Me?
Jesus helped Peter to deal with the “Why” question before He asked it!
- What About Him?
Peter’s problems always came when he took his eyes off of Christ.
Off of Jesus and on the circumstances, and he sank in the Sea of Galilee.
Off of Jesus and on success, and Jesus chastised him.
Off of Jesus and on his fears, and he betrayed Jesus in the courtyard.
Off of Jesus and on another disciple, and he hesitated to commit to God’s purpose.
God Has A Purpose For You!
Remember: Your Life Is Too Valuable, Your Calling Too Great And Your God Is Too Awesome To Waste Your Life On What Doesn’t Matter!
- Keep Your Eyes On Jesus- He may ask you to cast the net on the other side!
- Live For His Purpose For You- reach and feed His sheep!
- Follow Him!
