SEEING THE RESURRECTION, John 20:1-18
Questions:

There are three important details in John 20:1, 1. Early, 2. On the 1st day of the week, 3. The stone was removed.
The Shocking Truth Is: Our first response to the resurrection is usually not hope.
More often it is Disbelief, Confusion, Doubt Or Fear!

How Do We “See” The Resurrection As A Part Of Our Everyday Lives?

3 different words are used for seeing in this passage:
Verse 5 = to glance or to look in.
Verse 6 = to look carefully, to observe. (Greek: Theorao)
Verse 8 = to perceive with intelligent comprehension.
Evidence Of Jesus Resurrection
- Jesus Execution- A Team Of Roman Experts Examined Jesus Body And He Was Declared Dead.
- Early Historical Reports- Of Jesus Death And Resurrection, In The Same Time Frame.
- Empty Tomb- Even the Opponents Of Jesus Admitted The Tomb Is Empty.
- Eyewitness Testimonies- Over 500 People At The Same Time Saw Jesus Alive!
- Extraordinary Change In The Disciples- They Went From Chickens To Courageous Men. All But John Died Sharing Jesus Died And Rose Again—No One Willingly Dies For A Lie!
- Emergence Of The Church- Lives Are Still Being Changed Today!

There were 2 reasons why Mary couldn’t see Jesus:
Her Tears.
Her Focus.
Jesus asked two questions to help her find the answers her heart needed:
Why are you Crying?
Whom are you Seeking?

“I Recognize You, Teacher!”
Mary mistook Jesus for the gardener—Who do You mistake Him for?
The resurrection moves from being an historical event to being a personal event when we hear Jesus speak our Name!
As A Believer In Jesus—You Can Have A Close And Real Relationship With Jesus,
The kind You Need For Your Soul!
- 17 Jesus calls His disciples something He’s never called them before.
- A name He can now call them because of His death & resurrection—He calls them Brothers!
►The Moment We Put Our Faith In Jesus And Turn To Follow Him, We Become Jesus Brothers And Sisters!
How Can You And I “SEE” The Resurrected Lord In Our Everyday Lives?
We Need Evidence:
- Read the book ‘Evidence that Demands a verdict, Volume 1’ by Josh McDowell OR One Of Lee Strobel’s Books: ‘A Case For Christ, A Case For Faith, A Case For Faith, A Case For The Resurrection.’
- Build some personal evidence for the living Lord in your life by keeping a record this week of your prayers and God’s answers.
We Need Answers:
- Instead of asking God all of the questions this next week, spend at least one quiet time just listening for the questions that He might want to ask you.
- Read Your Bible And Seek For Answers—Get a study Bible and search the index!
We Need A Relationship:
- Start A Relationship with Jesus.
- Invest in your relationship with Jesus by reading your bible, being at church and praying.
- Take the time to give Jesus the credit for what He is doing in your life this week.
Order of the Events of the Resurrection
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome start for the tomb, L 23:55-24:1
They find the stone rolled away, L 24:2-9
Mary Magdalene goes to tell the disciples, Jn 20:1-2
Mary, the mother of James, draws near and sees the angel, Mt 28:1-2
She goes back to meet the other women following with spices
Meanwhile Peter and John arrive, look in and depart, Jn 20:3-10
Mary Magdalene returns weeping, sees two angels, then Jesus, Jn 20:11-18
The risen Christ bids her tell the disciples, Jn 20:17-18
Mary (mother of James) meanwhile returns with the women, L 24:1-4
They return and see the two angels, L 24:5; Mk 16:5
They also hear the angel’s message, Mt 28:6-8
On their way to find the disciples, they are met by the risen Christ, Mt 28:9-10
